Your Best Feature:
I don’t know you well enough
being in a school building after hours is a very surreal and creepy thing like if you listen closely you can hear the ghosts of the dreams of children and teachers asking you why you didn’t go to the bathroom during the break
Alright. I’m not normally one to do this, but everyone listen the fuck up. You see that girl up there, with the nice smile and cute doggy? She’s one of my high school classmates, and right now she’s kind of in deep shit.
A few days ago she was found unconscious outsider her neighbor’s porch, and she had been laying out there for most of the night in subzero temperatures. She was rushed to the hospital and treated for hypothermia and exposure; she may lose a hand or a foot, possibly two.
Now before I go on, let me tell you a little about her. She’s a very nice, caring person - in fact, in the summer of 2011 she went on a mission trip to Africa with a bunch of students from my high school, myself included. She definitely pulled her weight in everything we did there, whether it was helping take care of children at an orphanage or moving rocks to help build a wall around a building. And like many other college students, she occasionally engages in partying and drinking.
Well, apparently some jerk reporter named Aaron Rupar went through her tweets and found one that mentions tequila shots the night before she was found outside, and he wrote this article mentioning it. Reading it you can plainly see that he gives some brief info about the story and ends it like this:
Though no information has been released by authorities as to what Lommel was up to the night before she was found freezing to death, this tweet published Friday afternoon offers a clue:
That’s it. He ends it on an open note about her drinking, ripe for the public to make their own conclusions. And conclusions they made.
(I decided not to block out their names because, well, “that’s what they get”)
Thankfully there were hundreds more supportive and sympathetic comments, but this… this made me so fucking angry. Not only was it ridiculous for Rubar to go through her tweets and post it on a blogging/news site, it’s absolutely disgusting that these people are judging her for it. I don’t like underage drinking either, but nobody deserves to nearly freeze to death because of it. NOBODY. Not to mention the possibility that she might have slipped on ice and hit her head or something to be knocked unconscious.
Not only has Rupar brought negative attention to my classmate and her family during a hard time, apparently he once offered drinks to an underaged girl at one point. I won’t stoop to his level and post the particular message regarding that incident, but someone in the comments pointed it out.
So not only is Rubar a hypocrite, he has brought negative attention and hateful comments toward a girl and her family who are already going through a hard time. I emailed him and calmly explained what I found wrong about his article and implored him to remove it. I’d appreciate it if people would also mail him and/or reblog this post to raise awareness of the issue.
If you want to help even more, her family has set up a CaringBridge site for her: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/alyssalommel I’m sure she and her family would appreciate any donations or support.
Seriously I will love you forever if you guys reblog this - I know it’s not national news or something, but it would really mean a lot to me and Alyssa.
sometimes i will listen to hard knock life on repeat to practice for musical and just because it’s catchy
and then when i finally stop listening or change songs i kind of have to take a moment to remind myself that i’m not actually an angry orphan
is it the austin powers version of it?
nope. the actual broadway version and the 1999 movie version
Winter Rowing: a brief photoset
I just thought I’d share these, seeing as it’s winter and I live in New York which means snow has already begun.
